The Marshals Way
1 Respect for the Game.
We will respect the game of baseball and anyone who participates in it, including opposing players and opposing coaches. If another team or coach fails to act with class, that will be their choice, not ours. We will remain gentlemen and good sports at all times.
2 Respect for Umpires.
We will especially respect umpires. It is their job to uphold the rules, which are written to protect the integrity of the game. A Marshals player will never argue with, display emotion or otherwise act in a manner that disrespects an umpire.
3 Respect for Ourselves.
We will proudly wear the uniform of the organization, and will show our respect for the uniform by wearing it correctly. We will wear our caps straight, our pants long and keep our shirts tucked in. We will not dress in the dugout;
we will come to the field dressed and prepared for play.
4 Respect for Each Other.
We will respect our teammates, coaches and parents, and will never question another teammate’s ability, desire, hustle or intentions. We never act in anger toward a teammate.
5 Sportsmanship.
We will play with class and good sportsmanship always. We will exit the field after every game showing grace and maturity whether we win or lose. We will display good sportsmanship before, during and after games, and will always remember that character is a key ingredient of ability.
6 Discipline.
We will respect the McKinney Marshals program and coaches, and we will play with equal parts discipline, preparation & enthusiasm.
7 On TIme & 100% Effort.
We will not waste our practice time, or the practice time of our teammates, by being late. We will remember that skills are developed in practice and displayed in games, and that players play the way they have practiced. Accordingly, we will give 100% effort in practice, every practice.
8 Practice and Play With Effort.
We will practice and play with purpose. We will give maximum effort in everything we do. We will sprint to and from our positions on the field, and we will run out every grounder and fly ball. We will arrive on time for pre-game, and we will remain focused on the field and in the dugout.
9 Fail With Class. Win With Dignity.
We will react with maturity and try to learn from our experiences. We will not throw bats or batting helmets. We will expect to play well, and expect to succeed, but we will never willingly do so at the expense of the dignity of another athlete or team. We will respect and treat with friendship any athlete or team that participates in the game of baseball.
10 Respect for Parents.
We will remember to thank our parents for their support and for the opportunity to play the magnificent game of baseball. We will value and be thankful for the many hours and days they spend supporting our time pursuing the greatest game.
11 Respect for Teachers.
We will strive to excel in the classroom as well as on the field, will maintain passing grades in school, and will treat every teacher and administrator with respect.
12 We Represent a Larger Family.
We will remember that we represent not only ourselves, but our team, our coaches, our families, our schools, our cities and our state in every action we take, and we will strive to represent all of them with character, integrity and class.
13 One for All, and All for One.
We will remember, always, that we are a team. And we will remember that on a team, individual interests can be outweighed by what is best for the team. In those instances, we will strive to do what is best for the team.
14 The Marshals Way.
All of the above represents "The Marshals Way." As McKinney Marshals players, this is the way we will approach the game.
